Application to Submit Art for May 1 to 31, 2010 Exhibit

TEXAS – A Blending of Cultures
Fiber Arts Exhibit
at the Mexican American Cultural Center

The Texas Museum of Fiber Arts is pleased to announce a Call for Entries for the TEXAS – A Blending of Cultures Fiber Arts Exhibit during the month of May 2010. Fiber Arts, fine arts, refreshments, and educational speakers are arranged throughout the month’s exhibit.

The annual event provides a social, cultural experience of fine arts with scheduled featured speakers. As part of the May 2010 program, TMFA will present a slide show and lectures on Fiber Art. In conjunction with this, works of fiber artists will be on display. The exhibit is open to all, free of charge. For more information see: www.texasfiberarts.org.

EXHIBIT SITE: The Mexican American Cultural Center – 600 River Street Austin, Texas
provides its beautiful buildings and setting along the Colorado River in the downtown area for our exhibit and the promotion of Mexican American Culture. See: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/macc The Mexican American Cultural Center is dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of Mexican American cultural arts and heritage.

SPONSORING ORGANIZATION: The Texas Museum of Fiber Arts fosters education and creativity in fiber art expression, experience, and appreciation. TMFA exists to generate expressions in fiber arts of all kinds with an emphasis on fiber arts education with established and emerging Texas artists and art made from natural and man made fibers. In keeping with the mission of the TMFA to educate and exhibit excellence in Texas’ fiber arts for Texans to see and to reflect a wide range of original fiber art works, we call for entries that reflect cultural blending unique to Texas.

ELIGIBILITY: All submissions must be original in content and executed in a fiber arts technique or process. Applicant must be currently living in Texas, born in Texas, or attending, attended, or graduated from a Texas educational institution. Once a Texan, always a Texan. (No age requirement.)

NEW THEME AWARD: Art may be a blending of any of the cultural influences in Texas; a blending of processes, a blending of fibers; a blending of materials; a blending of concepts contributing to Texas.

APPLICATION: Two photos or two digital photos are to accompany an official, completed application for each work. No limit on the number of submissions. SELECTION: A Juror will review the submitted works for the overall artistic quality and process of qualified artists and select the works to be exhibited. On May 1, 2010, a juror will review the exhibited works to determine the award winners.

DEADLINE: Entry form, entry donation, and photos must all arrive by the deadline-- March 15, 2010

NOTIFICATION: TMFA will notify artists of acceptance to exhibit their art works on April 5, 2010. At that point, shipping and handling details will be given.

REQUIREMENTS and CONDITIONS: All submissions must be original work in concept, design, and process. Submissions must be completely ready for installation. Individual or collaborative entries are accepted.

If the accepted work is sold after March 15, 2010 and prior to the exhibition, the artist must make arrangements for the art to be available for the exhibition. Art other than that represented in photographs may not be substituted. Submitted images of the art or artist become the property of the TMFA. If a self-addressed envelope is provided, efforts will be made to return the photos. TMFA reserves the right to use submitted photographic images with the artist’s name of accepted works or take photos of the selected art for publicity, documentation, and educational purposes.

Exhibiting art works will be insured by the artists unless otherwise requested and agreed in writing. It is optional, but welcomed, for artists to be onsite to talk with viewers. A program with the artist’s name, email address, website or phone number will be printed. TMFA does not act as a dealer nor receive commission. If a viewer wants to purchase the art, the artist or his or her dealer will interact with the prospective collector. TMFA does NOT sell exhibited art.

ENTRY DONATION: A donation to the TMFA of $10.00 per entry is requested to defray TMFA printing and advertising expenses. Make check or money order payable to Texas Museum of Fiber Arts.

SHIPPING: The artist is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs to and from the exhibition. Complete shipping instructions will be included with notification of acceptance. If personal deliver of art to the site is preferred, arrangements can be made.

EXCEPTIONS: If an artist is in need for an exception to the voluntary donation or required insurance, we request this be made in writing and attached to the Entry Form. TMFA will consider the request and will notify the artist of its acceptance or rejection.
