Touching Fiber Arts

by Carol Ikard & Jacque Smith

To touch the genius of an artwork is to touch the soul of the artist. To understand the shared message of an artwork is to open the world of possibilities through a deep and insightful dialogue between you and the artist.

Touching Fiber Arts is a collection of 220 artworks created by 150 artist who have had a lasting imprint of their creativity through Texas. The various fiber arts represented here in both natural and synthetic fibers span the entire spectrum of the genre. These photographed artworks represent the best from Texas fiber artists in the 2007 to 2011 Texas Museum of Fiber Arts’ juried exhibitions.

Proceeds from the book will further the mission to tour fiber-art exhibits across Texas that will expand the experience, expression and education of fiber arts among all who enjoy stopping, looking and Touching Fiber Arts.

Book is 11″ x 9″ and contains 237 pages.

About the Authors

Carol is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and holds a Master’s in creative writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is presently working on a Ph.D. in art appreciation, with a focus on museum education programs. She has written short stories and screenplays, and has published online training programs for various corporations, government entities and publishing houses. She raised three children, is an avid midnight needlepointer and enjoys life in Austin with her two unconventional Labradors.

A former secondary English teacher, Jacque let the classroom to cultivate her writing career. In the years since, she has created a sizable and diverse body of work with screenplays, plays, nonfiction, journalism, and K-12 and adult eLearning products to her credit. A graduate of North Texas State University (when it was NTSU), she now works for the State of Texas as an instructional designer. Jacque has learned much about metaphysics and the power of love from Birdy, her chic, albeit somewhat schizoid, long-haired calico cat.
